Are measurement practices delivering an accurate picture of World Bank performance?

In view of their importance for understanding how effectively a project is achieving development results, the choice of targets and indicators receives surprisingly little scrutiny. The recent Results and Performance of the World Bank Group 2021, also known as the RAP, found that targets and indicators differed widely across World Bank projects in their adequacy for measuring development results directly and objectively.

Never enough? Resources, knowledge and staying power for gender equality

 

The new gender strategy presents a unique opportunity for us all to support the World Bank Group in getting the implementation right this time. It will require the Bank Group to move decisively towards documenting results rather than intentions, and to think more of the quality of gender integration. To put down the resources at all levels and, above all, to stay the course.

The year 2015 is pivotal in international development. As the era of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) concludes, work continues to take forward the unfinished MDG agenda and to define and meet the more ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In preparation for the new challenges, the World Bank Group is changing. A new strategy in 2013 set two ambitious goals: ending extreme poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity for the bottom 40 percent in a sustainable manner.
